I had never heard of either this series or author before receiving the first five as a gift. I was both hesitant and eager to read this. It wasn't what I considered to be a heavy fantasy read; the writing quality is a little lower than I expected (I'll forever joke that it's a haven for all those apostrophes that the writers of the world deemed too unnecessary and abandoned), and the characters involved so far feel a tad on the watery side in my opinion. However, I enjoyed it. It was a quick, easy enough read for me, though it did seem a little on the slow-paced side at times.
